The Château Prieuré-Lichine is located in Cantenac in the prestigious municipal appellation of Margaux in the Médoc. The vineyard now covers 70 hectares.
Its origin dates back to the 15th century, at the time the Benedictine monks of the Vertheuil abbey created the estate. At first, the property is intended for polyculture and it is only in the 18th century that the property becomes a wine-only domain. Under the first empire, the estate was acquired by a wine merchant from Bordeaux: Durand Delains. In 1855, Prieuré-Lichine is ranked 4th Grand Cru Classé in the 1855 ranking. Alexis Lichine takes over the Château after the war in 1951, he lost much of its original surface. In 1953, this wine appears for the first time under the name of today: Château Prieuré Lichine. Thanks to numerous modernizations and the extension of the vineyard, the new owner contributes largely to the renaissance of the Grand Cru of Margaux. In 1999, the Ballande group took over the Château and put in place a sustainable philosophyaround the château.
